Aikido Weapons
The weapons taught at the
RUSU and White Oak Dojo are mainly
based
on those taught by Saito
Sensei at Iwama. (The
Iwama Shrine). Weapons training forms an important part of the
Aikido
training at these Dojo and is included in the gradings from 6th kyu
upwards.
Three kinds of weapon are used,
- Bokken (woodern sword)
- Jo (short stick)
- Tanto (usually a wooden or
rubber knife but students of 3rd kyu
and
above may sometimes also use a 'live blade' - particularly in gradings).
